Week 7: Eating

So, the arthritis is getting better. I can walk downtown again! Yet that will guarantee that it hurts more the next day. At least I’m not housebound any longer. The arthritis jumps around. One day it is in my right arm; stiff enough that pulling a shirt over my head is difficult. The next day, it’s in my wrist, then shoulder, then my hips hurt when I get out of bed. Oh what fun a hookworm infection is. I never expected such joys.

Yet my appetite is huge. I have added melted chocolate to the list. I buy the unsweetened version, then put it in a pan with some honey, and scoop up the delicious mess a few minutes later. I eat corn chips with abandone. And went to a Mexican restaurant the other day and had fajitas, chips and salsa. And I’m not worse! A miracle.

I am having soft, but solid bowel movements. Large mounds in the toilet, like a rounded mountain. But I still get up in the night. I still have mucus between bowel movements. There’s nothing like squatting and then feeling something slip down into your underpants. Whoops! Gotta go clean up. I hate it. And then there’s the fart that isn’t. And another clean up session, change of underwear. When my drawer drops down to 4 pairs I know it’s time to do laundry.

My ankle is almost down to normal. Unless I walk downtown. I know I have 10 weeks to go before the Crohn’s proof of concept study returned to baseline. It feels like an eternity. Yet I soldier on.
