Week 16: Better?

Wow. I can’t believe it’s been 4 months. I’m one week from the
Crohn’s proof of concept study, where things are supposed to be
turning the corner. Finally! For those of you wondering if 4 months
feels like a long time to wait for wellness (or 45 weeks for that
matter) the answer is a resounding yes. I feel like I’ve been running
a marathon with the promise of water like a mirage way out in the
distance. So;

Positives:

*Slept through the night without getting up for a bowel movement 4 out
of 7 of the last nights. Woo hoo! (Of course, the other nights
included 5 times, 3 times, and I can’t remember.)

*No night sweats since the last flu. Which was 3 weeks ago.

*I’ve gained so much weight I have to get new pants.

*My girls say my pimples are looking much better. (nothing like
little children to honestly notice every wrinkle, pimple and bump)

*I felt good enough to try skateboarding this last weekend and crashed
spectacularly while going down a hill for all the bicyclists and
runners to see. Nothing like a dose of wellness to raise levels of
recklesness and stupidity. I’m a former athletic daredevil and have
to remember I’ve been sick for years. Now I’m limping again like I
have arthritis, but I feel proud instead of terrified.

*Against popular advice, I have eaten beans and tacos twice, bread
daily, chocolate daily, and tried salad again. (That was the 5 X
night) and I’m NOT WORSE!! (except for that night, but I recovered)

*Two near solid bowel movements this week, though far from normal,
were formed nevertheless.

*Other bowel movements have been soft and solid, mixed in with less
desirables.

*No bowel pain except the night I tried my husband’s beans.

Negatives:

*I’ve turned into a sleep monster, requiring naps that last sometimes
for 4 hours and then I go to bed by 9 and wake up at 5. You do the
math. I’m asleep half the day.

*Still have mucus in between bowel movements, but it seems like less.
(When this goes away, I will be ecstatic and treat myself to new
underwear.)

*Gas is very smelly. My poor husband’s been cracking the window at
night, but luckily we have opposite sleep schedules and only are in
bed for a few hours together. Most likely I’m reacting to things I’m
not used to eating, but it’s worth it. (at least for me)

*Depressed lately (been having some moral quandries and am obsessing
about what I’m going to do with my well self)

*feeling old and ugly (though I can’t blame this on the worms)

Overall, the trend is on the upswing. I felt wonderful a few weeks
ago until a dramatic regression around my period which took at least
10 days to recover from. I’m in PMS week again, so I’m trying to
prepare myself for upcoming misery and doom. Maybe I’ll be pleasantly
surprised.

So far so good.
