The last few days things have really improved. The intense ileal pain is almost gone. Gone! It still feels a little hard to the touch, but gas is going through there easily whereas just 2 weeks before, it was constantly blocked. What a relief!
I walk through the rain like I am floating. To go from chronic pain to almost nothing makes one bouyant, hopeful.
This happened with my first dose- around week 3, though I was developing eodema and reactive arthritis, the ileal pain just kind of dropped off. Little hookworm anasthesia…
It’s not like my stools have improved very much. Still waking up at night at least twice. Things are mostly loose, a few more solid chunks here and there. I think I might be down 4 or 5 bowel movements, but I’m not really counting… But it doesn’t hurt like before. So I care less.
I had night sweats for 4 nights straight on days 12-16, then got my period, had none, now the last 2 nights I’ve been slightly sweaty again (days 19, 20). The pain on night 12 was terrible. But days 18 and 19, I had energy! I wasn’t exhuasted most of the day. I layed a broken concrete path! I’m waiting for the 3 week intestinal inflammatory reaction, and it may yet come, but for now I am living like these are the last pain-free days of my life.
I ate a loaf of sourdough bread this weekend. I couldn’t resist. My appetite is huge. I have to think it’s the hookworms, like before. (Was ravenous with the first dose, weeks 3- 12 especially.) Chocolate, sourdough bread, and pickles. I’ve got to get more iron…
I’m feeling little twinges of joint pain here and there. Very little. It’s actually less than before this dose, so we’ll see how it goes.
So far, I’m very pleased. I was expecting horrible reactions to re-infection, but so far, I’ve had a lovely first week bounce, a poor second week (though not unlike the last 2 months) and now I’ve lost my major pain. I trust nothing though. I cannot allow myself to get excited. I’ll take a blood test in a week and see where my inflammation is at.
Then perhaps I’ll smile.
