This last week things are improving.  I’m having more solid stools, less pain, and more energy.  Hurrah!  I’ll be at 4 weeks in 2 days, so this latest worm infection is mimicking the ones of last year; minimal side effects, efficacy within a month….yeah! Read the rest of this entry »

Right now there is an explosion of articles on helmintherapy, because one single man had the courage to try worms independently, and do enough colonoscopies to prove efficacy.

For those of you new to this blog, I’ve had Crohn’s colitis for over 20 years, tried almost all the available western (and alternative) medications, and tried hookworms (necator americanus) in December of 2007 to reverse my severe ileal-colonic Crohn’s disease.  It worked!  I had many horrible side effects the first few months (see year 1 on this blog), but I also experienced gains I never had before, like the heighest weight ever (this is a good thing), clearer skin (this was an unexpected bonus) and the ability to eat foods I hadn’t tolerated in over a decade.  (Dark chocolate, my new love.) Days 7-10

So, solid bowel movements are now a thing of the past.  Night sweats nights 7-9.  Nausea every morning is pretty bad, then I take a Benedryl.  It makes the nausea mostly go away, and I get hungry instead.  The benefits last for hours.  I’m getting accustomed to the Benedryl weirdness; it kind of makes me happy.

The night sweats have been weird; usually I get these the few days before my period, which isn’t happening for another week.  I didn’t have them last night.

Then two nights ago, my youngest daughter came down with a fever; 103 in the night, 101 during the day.  But it broke yesterday, down to 99 something.  She also had a headache, was very tired, and complained of having a tummy ache.  But then she got hungry and ate sausage and salami later.  So maybe I’ve got the flu too?  I’ve been feeling like I have chills, but then I take my temperature and it’s normal.  Yesterday it was 99.6 though…

My husband felt bad for day 9, really tired and weird.  He took a Benedryl too and couldn’t tell if the side effects just made him not notice his fatigue, or if it helped.  He felt fine yesterday.

Rash is totally gone, no more itch.

I’m waking up usually 1-2 X at night.  Rectum is very sore and bleeding.  Then I’ll have another 2-3 BM’s in the morning, often just little bits of bloody mucus.  Sigh.

I’m using mesalamine suppositories, coated with honey.  They seem to help a little.  I also rubbed aloe on my butt last night, and swallowed a little piece of the inner gel/clear bit.  A very little piece, and just last night, so can’t blame my looser stools on this.

Things were firming up BM wise the week before I got infected, and I knew the new worms would probably ruin this, I just didn’t think it would happen until week 3.  I’m getting a little afraid of what’s to come.

I’ve only been on 2 walks this week since I’ve been feeling so bad.  Really tired too.  Now it’s raining, but I’m going to try to walk daily if I can.  The last walk a few days ago I really had to drag myself through it.

So I have no idea if this is the flu or the worms.  Time will tell I guess.  I’m trying to remain positive, but as usual, I’ve got other things I want to try, but they’ll affect the worms.

Curcumin?  May kill the worms.  Propolis?  May be anti-helminthic.  Bee venom therapy?  I’m not ready to go there yet, but would it be complementary?

Or should I just try Cimzia?

I wish the worms would work now and there weren’t any side effects to get through.  I’ve been through enough.  I just want wellness and hope again.

One week today since reinfecting with 10 hookworms.  Rash was itchy.  I’ll post pictures soon.  Rash went through several stages, from little red entry points, to looking like broken blood vessels around it, then raised bumps, now I’m down to just flesh colored bumps.  It still itches on and off.  WAY less severity then the 15 dose when I wasn’t on Prednisone.

Nothing for the last week, good or bad.  No “hookworm high” at all, damn it.   I’ve been really tired in general, going to the bathroom on average 4 X – usually 1-2 times a night, then another 2 or 3 in the morning.

Some solid stools, some soft mounds.  Hurts to come through the anus.  Always blood, always mucus, a lot of mucus.

I’ve started mesalimine suppositories, twice a day.  Coated with orange blossom honey to see if that helps.  I’ve started smearing the outside of my very painful butt with honey as well, since hemmerhoid cream hasn’t been working.  I think I have internal and external hemmerhoids, plus anal Crohn’s.  It all just means pain and constant mess.  I’m so sick of these symptoms.

Yesterday, I just felt a little flu-ish.  Kind of like I had chills, or a fever, but I checked, and I didn’t.  A little nauseous.  Last night I had night sweats, which can’t be hormonal since my period isn’t due for another 10 days at least.  I feel sick this morning too.  Perhaps I am sick, perhaps it’s the worms.  I’m going to take a Benedryl this evening and see if that lessens anything.  I might try one today, since the only item on the agenda is to take my girls to the new Harry Potter film.

Magnesium depletion symptoms have gotten a lot worse over this last week.  They started before the new addition of worms.  I imagine the stress of preparing for the BTER event and all the traveling, and not getting my magnesium chloride baths (and forgetting my magnesium oral supplements) all contributed.  I’m twitching more, have some anxiety, and have slightly numb hands and feet, and feel dizzy when I walk.  Yuck.  Back to baths twice daily; I might add a foot soak in as well.

Not feeling great, but mobile and hanging in there.  I’m on 15 mg. of Prednisone as of the 14th.  Will go to 12.5 mg. next week, and see how that goes.  So far, only slightly miserable.  When do the good times start?
